3PEAK has launched the TPAFEA108, a highly integrated analog front-end chip designed for data center optical modules and 50G PON equipment. The device integrates two onboard power converters, four 12-bit IDAC channels (up to 220mA each), and four VDAC channels (adjustable from -5V to 0V) in a compact 3.4×2.8mm 22-pin QFN package.

A key differentiator is the adaptive power supply architecture – each power rail can be software-configured or load-tuned to minimize waste. The BUCK converter (up to 800mA) supports IDAC with as low as 0.5V dropout, while the inverting buck-boost supplies VDAC with ≤1% accuracy from -5V to -1V and <10mV deviation from -1V to 0V. Switching at 3MHz, it requires only tiny 0603 inductors and 0402 capacitors, saving significant PCB space.
Current output ripple is under 0.3mV, with total IDAC accuracy within ±1% for 30–220mA range and ≤0.3mA for 2–30mA. The VDAC channels deliver up to 80mA sink current with <10mV load regulation. The chip also integrates real-time voltage/current monitoring, short-circuit and over-temperature protection, and I2C control – all in one unified die.

Target applications: EML laser biasing and electro-absorption modulator bias in high-speed optical transceivers. The TPAFEA108 replaces discrete solutions with higher efficiency, lower power, and simpler BOM – addressing the key pain points of optical module designers.
